When added to plastic compounds, Talc Powder improves wear resistance due to its lubrication action coupled with its low thermal conductivity that help dissipate heat away from friction surfaces. Furthermore, this powder can improve non-stick properties when blended into rigid PVC or TPO compounds by reducing adhesive forces between two materials such as metal parts sliding against each other. Due to its natural whiteness, talc is also used to provide optical effects such as brightness or opacity when added into formulations made from colorants or other additives such as pigments or waxes. Finally, talc adds stability by preventing cold flow of molten resins during injection molding operations resulting in tighter dimensional accuracy with less shrinkage than without talc’s presence in the formulation.
